Large corporations, like First National Bank sponsored the occasional float, complete with a live violinist and a sparkly, balloon laden display.An unnamed leprechaun character manuevered around on his dirt bike, boasting frequent wheelies.Many families have been coming to the Pittsburgh parade for years, dating back several decades and generations.The Syria Shrine Highlanders Pipes and Drums band brought the traditional bagpipes and drums to the parade route.Springer spaniels are no strangers to the Pittsburgh St. Patrick’s Day Parade, returning as the popular Irishman’s best friend.Volunteers handed out Irish flags, beaded necklaces and candy throughout to young children.Santa Claus traded his jovial red suit for a mean, green getup and a Terrible Towel.The South Fayette High School Marching Band is known for dancing while they play, showing off jump kicks during the march.
Pittsburgh firefighters invited their families to walk in the parade, some appearing with their own mini floats.Frankie the Fish, Allegheny County Sanitary Authority’s mascot, made an appearance to show off his complexion.
