Student Government Association President Nick Miller announced Wednesday that he will not seek a second term in office.
“That’s been a tough decision, but now that I’ve made it, I can continue to keep doing the work for the next three months and focus on that rather than thinking about that decision,” he said.
Miller made the announcement at the SGA general body meeting. He did not elaborate on why he is stepping down.
Mary Paternoster, vice president of communications, said she knew Miller prior to his presidency and is proud to see what he has accomplished.
“Especially as someone who stepped into the position as a [freshman] … I’ve loved seeing everything he’s done and all the initiatives that he has started,” she said.
Samiya Henry, vice president of mission and community, said working with Miller has been a pleasure. She credited him with bringing positive energy both to SGA and Duquesne.
“To see him step down from the position is a shock, but him leaving doesn’t mean he doesn’t care. Instead, it shows how much he cares about the future of SGA. He wants other students who are just as passionate to have the same opportunity awarded to him,” she said.
Miller, who is a sophomore public policy and national intelligence major, was elected as president in March 2025 after beating opponent Mwango Kasuba. He led a transportation committee for SGA during his freshman year. Miller was the youngest president in recent history.
