The city of Pittsburgh unveiled the entries from its annual gingerbread house competition and display at the City-County Building during Light-Up Night on Nov. 23. The elaborate holiday creations will remain open for visitors through Jan. 3.

As a professional cake designer, everything in Mary Jo Dowling’s ‘The Point’ was edible, from the chocolate sleigh bells and isomalt rivers, down to the gum paste flowers and fondant ribbons.
In the ‘Adult (Ages 18+)’ category, L. Joseph utilized hardened sugar domes to mimic glass in their creation, ‘Snow Globe City Station.’
‘Randyland,’ created by two Moon Area Middle School life skills classrooms, drew inspiration from the popular Pittsburgh landmark.
Leah Gesk featured a Quidditch match from the ‘Harry Potter’ series in her gingerbread scene, ‘Hogwarts,’ complete with gummy bear players and pretzel rod broomsticks.
First place winner, ‘A Minecraft Miracle,’ submitted by Finn Gallacher in the ‘Children Ages 6 to 9’ category, used colorful fondant to disguise gingerbread components in more complex designs.
In addition to first, second and third place ribbons, the ‘2024 Clearview Choice’ was awarded to ‘Page’s Dairy Mart’ by a Moore Elementary fifth-grade class. The ‘2024 People’s Choice Award’ is still accepting votes.
In a fourth wall break, Adoption Connection, Pa. entered a family building a gingerbread house in ‘Children Make a House a Home’ in the ‘Non-Profit Ages 18+’ category.
Second place in the ‘City Departments & Authorities’ category, the Office of Community Health & Safety submitted ‘Nar-Candyland,’ increasing awareness for the life-saving drug.
