Duquesne’s medical school will be renamed to the Nasuti College of Osteopathic Medicine after a donation was given to the university, President Ken Gormley announced Saturday.

The new title will recognize Jim and Celeste Nasuti’s donation to the school, which is the second-largest in Duquesne’s history after the donation from Thomas R. Kline that renamed the law school in 2022. The specific amount of the donation will remain confidential at the family’s request. Funding will be used toward scholarships and faculty development at the medical school, which opened in 2024.

“This will enable our highly trained graduates of the Nasuti College of Osteopathic Medicine to go on and serve others in myriad ways,” Gormley said in a news release.

Jim Nasuti graduated from Duquesne in 1970 and Celeste Nasuti’s parents were both Duquesne students in the 1930s. Together, they are co-founders of Summerwood, a Pennsylvania-based company that operates more than 200 Taco Bell and KFC franchises across six states.

“We are just honored to be associated with such an excellent project,” Jim Nasuti said in a news release.

“The world needs doctors. Plus, Duquesne adds that important consideration of service and helping people, going back to its founding purpose to help immigrants to Pittsburgh.”
