The Prime Stage Theater of Pittsburgh invites history buffs, theater enthusiasts and local culture lovers to explore Pittsburgh’s illustrious history through its second annual cemetery walk on Sept. 28.

Visitors can partake in a guided tour through the hallowed grounds of The Homewood Cemetery, traversing the resting places of Pittsburgh’s historical and political giants.

The tour will highlight icons like Andrew Carnegie, the steel industry magnate; Henry Clay Frick, cultural philanthropist extraordinaire; and Thomas Mellon, a pioneer in finance and education, as well as other contributors to Pittsburgh’s as well as the nation’s history.

In preparation for the event, local actors have teamed up with knowledgeable guides to bring these historical figures to life. Their storytelling weaves together personal anecdotes and the profound impact these individuals have had on Pittsburgh and the world beyond.

“Many of our mainstage plays have history as a central focus,” Prime Stage Theatre artistic director Dr. Wayne Brinda said in a news release. “The Cemetery Walk is a chance for us to present audiences with a personal look at historic Pittsburghers and the impact they had on shaping our community.”

Guides will shed light on contributions from political leaders like David L. Lawrence and Sophie Masloff, architects of Pittsburgh’s social landscape. Discover areas of the cemetery usually closed to visitors, unveiling the architectural beauty of mausoleums and monuments surrounded by serene nature.
