“Oh, here’s an idea: Let’s make pictures of our internal organs and give them to other people we love on Valentine’s Day. That’s not weird at all.”
-Jimmy Fallon
For years I thought Valentine’s Day was stupid — a “Hallmark Holiday.” It puts unnecessary pressure on those in a relationship to give the perfect gift, while making single people feel bad about their singleness. Hannah, my roommate and best friend, proposed we spend the day together this year (going to lunch and exploring the city). We both have busy schedules, our free time rarely overlapping, so spending a whole day together is a rarity.
Valentine’s Day isn’t about chocolate or flowers, it’s about carving out time to spend with someone you love (romantic or platonic). If you are in a relationship, don’t feel the pressure to make the day perfect. If you are single, don’t wallow in loneliness (I’m sure you have someone that loves you, spend the day with them!)
